What is best GPS device for use on mountains?

Has to have altimeter, thermometer and maps for Europe.

The thermometer is going to be the biggest challenge. If that’s a deal breaker for you, and if you can wait about two weeks, the Garmin Colorado 300 may be your best bet. It includes the altimeter, built in compass, and a temperature sensor, the only line of receivers I’m aware of with one. This receiver, along with it’s 400 series counterpart will most likely be the top of the line with they’re released at the end of the month.

The major difference between the 300 and the 400 is that the 300 doesn’t include maps with it. As far as I can tell, they aren’t making a European model right away so I’d recommend starting with the 300 and adding your own Mapsource maps.

If the thermometer isn’t absolutely necessary, check out the Garmin GPSMap 60CSX. It has many of the features of the Colorado for $200 less.

Updated: I just got a chance to test out a Colorado yesterday and it’s an amazing device. I’ll probably get one myself soon!
