Curtis Gps Gpd430

Swollen battery in Curtis GPS?

I bought a Curtis GPS (Model GPD430) at Rite-Aid for $59.99 about a year ago. The other day, I noticed the battery is swollen, and looks like it’s about to explode. I know the LI-Polymer batteries are very dangerous. My question is: How can I remove the battery without damaging the GPS or myself for that matter? Also, does anyone know where I can find a replacement battery for this model GPS? Thanks in advance!

That battery most certainly sounds defective. Move the entire GPS to a cool place away from people and living space. Call the Curtis customer service number on the instruction manual. It probably needs either professional repair or a full replacement, depending on whether the battery is easily removable. The unit’s charging circuit may have an internal failure that then damaged the battery, and in that case a DIY replacement of the battery will fail quickly (and maybe with more of a bang).
If the battery is replaceable, Curtis customer service can direct you to where you can get it repaired.
