Garmin Gps Etrex Venture

can someone help me figure out how to use my Garmin eTrex Venture HC for geocacheing?

I have geocached beofre but with the aid of my ex and his gps. The gps i got came with a metroguide canada v4 cd. (im in canada)

I tried loading the maps on last night but only for my general area due to size and loaded some geocaches which were close to home but had a very hard time figuring out how to use the gps once everything was loaded. any advice woudl be great
