TomTom One XL or Garmin Nuvi 255w?
I am looking to buy a GPS and have narrowed it down to two. I think. I’ve looked at both and decided that one doesn’t have features that are better than the other. I tried to find user reviews on some sights but most don’t have too many. So what I’m asking: Does a TomTom One XL work better overall than a Garmin Nuvi 255w?
If you have any suggestions of others I should look at, here’s what I know I’m looking for:
Widescreen (I’ve seen normal screens in use and would prefer wide)
Easy-to-update data and maps, including additional POI’s (I know Garmin has this but not sure about the TomTom)
Reliable satellite coverage and quick automatic relocating of route.
A max price of $300 (Around $250 would be great)
TomTom ONE XL lacks text-to-speech, which to me is the most important feature besides the common ones. However, you can get TomTom ONE XL-S. It comes with text-to-speech, and is still cheaper than Garmin nuvi 255w. Neither company offers free official map update, but with TomTom you can get map updates other users submitted to their web site. You can do a side-by-side comparison for the three models here:
