What is the difference between an A-GPS cell phone & GPS cell phone?
Is there added data-transfer costs associated with A-GPS phones?
OK, A-GPS (assistted global positioning system) is more reliable (usually within 5 meters-10 meters) because that service uses seperate servers to calculate where you are on the earth, and sends it back to your phone. That means, the phone you carry, or the nav unit you have in the car uses less processing power… which frees up more memory for other things.
As far as the cost involved… E911 location is free from all cellular carriers, in case of an emergency. It’s an FCC rule. That’s why you are paying the Universal Service Charge (based on a percentage of your monthly bill, and the E911 charge also on your monthly bill) If you’re wondering about getting directions and traffic updates, all those things are different based on who your carrier is, and the type of navigation service plan you have on your cell phone.
If you’re looking for a break on the monthly bill, check to see if the company you work for is eligable for any company dicounts through your cell phone carrier. You never know til you ask.
