I ad some gadgets on my touring bike?
like airobars , GPS , HRmonitor , cyclocomputer , lights and no more space on drop handlebars . I need handlebar bags also , so I have two options Minoura have some solution and I want to know if Minoura is good made product or not ? Another idea is take spacers out and on place to install second stem upside down . I have old straight handle bars , just need cut length so I can relocate handlebars bag under airobars and have more space on drop handlebars for all my gadgets . Which alternative is better ? I would like to hear opinion from experienced riders once again please . This is last touth for my Co- motion touring bike . By the way , your knowledge about components and what will work help create perfect , long lasting high quality machine for long distances touring . My thanks to all experienced riders who help me with this task .
If you want to clear up room on your exsting bars, invest in a new GPS unit. For example, the Garmin Edge 305 combines GPS, cyclocomputer, and heart rate monitor into one device measuring 1.75 x 3.7 x 0.9 inch (4.4 x 9.4 x 2.3 cm). It also includes an altimeter.
For handlebar bags, using Minoura is okay. Adding a second stem/handlebar configuration is a BAD IDEA … results in very poor handling characteristics.
Personally, I don’t believe in handlebar bags. I mount a small bag on the top tube right behind the stem (big enough for a cell phone, keys, and/or some credit cards or cash). I usually stash maps and food in my jersey pockets, along with a second pair of glasses.
If I need to be carrying anything else, I use panniers or a backpack … just because of the handling characteristics. It’s much easier to control the loaded bike when the center of gravity is low!
