What is an acquisition satellite?
I can’t find a definition anywhere, but I think it has something to do with GPS/Aviation navigation. Has anyone heard of it?
In astronomy terms it is a planetary satellite that did not form with the planet but fell into orbit when it passed too close to the planet. An example would be Mars’ two moons Phobos and Deimos.
If you are talking about artificial satellites then it would mean a satellite intended to collect (aquire) information using on board instruments and relay the information back to earth. Examples would be NOAA Weather Satellites and yes I think GPS/Aviation and navigation satellites would also fall into that category… but I’m not sure.
