Pet tracking has been a really tough application for GPS devices until recently – mostly because of battery life and size constraints.
A new device that should work well as a pet tracker is available through Rocky Mountain Tracking – the PT-200 device has a battery life of about a week when reporting position every 5 minutes – or a month if reporting upon demand only.

The devices are not cheap, but they work very well. I know they’re working with a dog collar manufacturer to offer a full solution to customers wishing to locate pets when they go missing.
