Geocaching Question – GPS?

What is a good GPS for a 14 year old? I had the Garmin eTrex Venture HC, but I went through three of them because something was wrong with it. I want to get a new GPS but not too expensive. Maybe under $300. Any suggestions?

I know you had some issues with your Venture but I and a number of friends have had very good luck with the the etrex family. They are great for hand held outdoor use and all of them are under $300.
One of the really nice things is the small size and the ability to operate them with only the hand that is holding it. That allows you to have your other hand free for other uses.

I would recommend getting one that is a little above the bare minimum. The HCX models can hold a lot of maps on the memory card and they become very useful for street navigation in addition to outdoors use. If he is only going to use it for Geocaching, you can go with a cheaper model but you want at least the H version. However, I would stay away from the Etrex H since it still uses a serial port (less common on new computers for upload/download.
