What can I do to protect myself against Geotagging-related theft when I post my photos online?
Geotagging is the tactic of using a cell phone camera that has a GPS system enabled. And regrettably, potential stalkers, burglars, and trespassers use geotagging to plan such acts. This was mentioned in Good Morning America. Regrettably, I use Facebook and MySpace so I am scared!!!
Among other options, the most obvious is to turn off the GPS function of your phone. Turn it on when you need it, of course, but turn it off when you are done. If your phone doesn’t know where you are, it can’t tag your photos.
You can also download an exif viewer–software that displays the data attached to a photo–to make sure that your photos are clean.
