Is the gamin colorado 400i good for recreational boating?
Is the Garmin Colorado 400i good for recreational boating? I will be using it in the Great Lakes and will purchase the Great Lakes card for the GPS.
the 400i will work for your inland lake navigation needs but you may have problems with it because it is not water proof. and some reviews state the screen is not bright enough for outdoor use.
my recommendation is to also look at the garmin 76csx, it is designed for marine use, is waterproof (submersible to about 3′) and can be set up for power boats, sailboats or automobiles.
i own one and am very pleased with it. worked well in both our power skiff at up to 55mph and our sailboat at 6 knots. we’re in the pnw and have all of the uscg charts for this area loaded on it.
one of the nice features includes tide tables for all coastal waters.
