Gps Lafayette Indiana

Quick and easy way to get from Ohare to Lafayette, Indiana?

My flight lands on a Saturday around 4:30 Chicago time, which would be 5:30 in Lafayette. I need to make it to Lafayette by 8:30 ish. This gives me 3 hours, but in the past, it has taken me well over 3 hours, especially on a saturday afternoon.
My GPS tells me to take I-90 E, but like I said, the traffic has been horrible in the past. Is there another way to make it through or around Chicago that will take me to I-65?
Looking at a map, 294 looks like it doesnt go so close to downtown, but won’t be as far out of the way. Is the traffic bad on 294 also?
I am not from the midwest, so I am not familiar with the roads, at all. Help!
I don’t mind adding mileage, as long as there shouldnt be bumper to bumper traffic.

Yea, the toll road to 80 is a tad longer but not bad- but isnt near as bad traffic wise unless there is snow or an accident then all bets are off. Your still looking at 2.5 hours- so its tight without snow- if theres snow, you wont be able to do it.

And yes theres shuttles as another mentioned- http://www.purdue.edu/transportation/boilerride/alternative_trans.htm has many, but thats your call if you need a car rental may be worth looking into if you dont need a car in lafayette.
