I have a question about car GPS systems?

My brother-in-law STATES (no idea how this works….) that his car gps system does not require any downloading of maps.. and that it updates by itself automatically through the use of satellites. That sounded great to me, but from what I’m seeing.. there’s nothing like that on the market. I would like to get my boyfriend a navigation system for Christmas and I’m wondering if this type of system actually exists because I think it would be of much more use to him. Thank you

That does not exist. For all the GPS systems you can update your maps by computer via a USB cable. It is impossible to update your GPS by a satellite.
