Gps Road Navigation
GPS that is good for highway navigation and for hiking/geocaching?
I’ve done online research and am not satisfied with what I’m finding. It seems that a great highway model is no good under trees and off-road. A great off-road GPS is NO good on the highway. If you have experience with a good GPS that is adequate for both types of use, please let me know.

Are there expensive models that do both?
I just started looking last night, but haven’t found one that really works for both.
There are several GPS units that might meet your need. The one that I’m most familiar with (because I use one) is the Garmin 60 CSx. The 60 CSx is the first GPS made with geocaching in mind, but it also has routing capability if you purchase and load the map sets. I accepts micro SD cards, and with a 2 gig card can hold detailed street (or topo) maps for the entire US. Its screen is a little small compared to most automotive units, but that is to be expected with a handheld. Performance, both on the road and under the trees is excellent. External power cables and mounts for most vehicles are readily available. I use mine for caching/hiking, in the car, on my motorcycles, and on my bicycle.
The GPS itself can be purchased for approximately $300 on line, and the maps and micro sd card, etc. would add perhaps another $100 +/- to that.
One other interesting possibility, but I have no experience with this one (yet) is the DeLorme PN-40. The big advantage here is that the map sets are much less expensive, plus it has some interesting capabilities for caching that the 60 CSx lacks. That said, the 60 CSx remain the the tool of choice for many experienced cachers, and it works well in most other applications as well.
