Gps Shortcomings
Need advice in selecting a Portable GPS for my car?
My requirements – Pls suggest models.
- Voice activated system
- I’d prefer entire US maps so that I don’t have to load maps every time I cross states
- No monthly fee
- Easy updates of maps (through a computer preferably), would there be a charge for every update ?
- Re-routing ability
- Be able to select a particular road/highway I’d take
- easily installable
- What is the specification I should look for to compare the accuracy with which it spots you (like a 5 ft radius or what) ?
Also pls share your experience with your GPS – positive aspects and shortcomings
I know that nearly everyone recommends Garmin, however after owning several of them and doing some research, I bought a Lowrance iway500c. It will do all the things you want and uses WAAS making it accruate down to several meters. Only drawback is that it must use the auto’s 12 volt system, via the cigarette lighter rec.
