Are there any companies in China who offer GPS trackers for bicycles?
I live in China and want to ride a bicycle but like in many places theft is a major issue. I know in the West there are several security companies who will not only track your bike for you if it gets stolen but they’ll actually go retrieve it as well, removing the risk involved in chasing the guy who just stole your bike.
I found online that a company in Japan now has this service but I can’t seem to locate anything in China. I know the local police stations have a serial tagging system but that only really works if the bike is stolen and then later retrieved by police. I’ll still register my bike with them just in case but the chance of a stolen bike turning up at the police station seems slim.
It’s likely that I’ll be buying a more expensive road / hybrid bike for long trips to and from school every day so I’m hoping I have options for protection.
Elena S is right, as a “Lao-wai” the Chinese couldn’t care less if they stole from you or that the police would want to waste there time on you.
Don’t waste you time buying a gps if it can be seen they will steal that instead. You need a pair of good thick bike chains and locks. They will even saw through them in some cases. If you going to leave it outside make it as hard as possible put a chain around your front wheel and the frame and another for the back wheel that also goes around the bike frame and a solid post, fence etc.
If its a good bike don’t bother putting it outside.
