Gps Widest Screen
GPS Garmin questions?
I am considering buying the garmin nuvi 660. I looked at the Garmin website and there are some things that I don’t understand:
1. 660 has the ability to add maps, how ? do I have to buy them or just download for free from the internet, if so which site?
How can I update maps?
2. built-in memory it mentions “internal solid state”, what does it mean? how many gigabites or megabites( I don’t know) does it have?
3. Accepts data cards, what’s that for?
4. Waypoints: 500, what does that mean?
5. MSNĀ® Direct for U.S. compatible, uhh, do I need it?
As you can see I am lost in the specs, I am also considering garmin nuvi 350, it’s a lot cheaper and will take me places. In my opinion, the only advantage of the 660 is the wider LCD screen since I don’t care much about about the phone and radio and so on. I want something that will take me from point A to point B.
Help me please, your opinion will help me decide.
Thanks
We have a Garmin Rino 530 (bought for its marine capabilities.)
We found that calling Garmin…while you wait on the line forEVER…they know their stuff, and can talk you through the product line to meet your needs.
We had to buy a separate map set, that we need to upload whenever we travel to other parts of the country (outside of our main area.) We don’t have as much memory as other units, because of the radio.
Ask the rep about the memory capability. We sacrified memory for radio…and wished they’d offered something with both.
When you have some free time, call Garmin for your questions…they really can help you sift the options.

All in all, we enjoy our unit. We have only scratched the surface on all the stuff it does, and it hasn’t disappointed us yet.
Good luck!
