Is it difficult driving through Chicago?
In a couple months I am going to be driving to Chicago. I have been there before, but cannot say that I am very familiar with the city and I will be by myself. I am used to driving mainly in rural and medium-sized cities.
-Will it be difficult?
-When is the best time to drive downtown?
-Are there any other alternatives to driving through the city, such as parking somewhere, and taking a shuttle into the city? (I’m coming from WI)
-Any tips?
Also, will it be best to have GPS navigation with step by step directions?

GPS is always a good idea. Problem with Chicago, and most other big cities, is that traffic is so crowded that you can miss your exit before you realize it. It is easy to accidentally wonder into a bad section of town and your safety is in jeopardy.
It is easy to be less than forgiving to cars from out of state, but I always try to cut them a little slack.
Let them change lanes or merge when you can.
Also, watch for rental trucks, (U-haul types). They are often driven by folks from outside the area and often by drivers who are not accustomed to driving larger vehicles. Sometimes they are tired too and can be unpredictable.
