Portable Gps With Wifi
Am looking for a PDA or PPC– NOT phone. What would you recommend?
I really like the thought of the integrated GPS (with turn by turn directions–not just maps). I was thinking about investing in one anyway, but right now, I really need a portable calendar to go where I go, and tell me what to do–as I’m horrible with time.
I’m a bit of a geek, so the wifi, bluetooth, and a camera would be nice–what would be the perfect PDA for me? What do you use?
I was looking at the Mio p550, but I’ve read bad reviews… Personal experience is best, so please let me know what you think!
good luck on the personal experience part! These days, it’s all about wireless and cellphones. However, it IS nice to see another person wanting a noncellphone PDA. Unfortunately, Palm is stagnant on standalone PDAs. It’s all been about the Treos. PPCs may have some standalone PDAs, but it’s still a crapshot. Nothing’s really within the past few years AFAIK.
My friend has some Compaq/HP ipaq model with wifi, BT, multimedia, a very bright spotlight (practically a flashlight in a PDA), GPS, and cellphone. If u were to buy and and forgo the cell plan, turn off the cell receiver (should be possible), u’d have everything else u want in a single package. The GPS would be free of service charge. He got it for $500, but that was years ago. Even then, it’s a pretty good deal considering all you’re getting in one package. There’s a rumor that PPCs have issues with alarms. If that’s true, then PPCs are worthless b/c i use alarms on my PDA alot (Palm Tungsten T3)
Garmin iQue series are the only Palm devices with built in GPS. However I don’t thnik they have wifi nor BT, so GPS built in would be the main feature
ALl other Palm devices don’t really have GPS built in. Can be added through SDIO plugin, but u’d have to lug around a thing that sticks out at the top, or bottom as some use the bottom connector. The Tungsten X and Lifedrive are your best bets for a uber geek device on the Palm side. U’ll need a GPS hardware add on though
That’s all i can really say. Even tho my electronic devices have some overlap, i’ve settled and find having a seperate device for GPS, PDA, digicam, mp3 player, and cellphone works out quite well.
