Which GPS should I buy? I don’t know anything about them!?

I have recently taken a job where I will need to do some traveling throughout South Jersey- nothing too far- I am actually getting rid of my car in July and moving to Chicago so I don’t even need it for that long-

I am looking to spend around 150-200 max… I like the text-to-speech option, other than that I don’t think I have any specifics in mind really. I want to be able to take it off of my dashboard when I leave my car, too.

buy.com has plenty for well under your budget with a nice 4.3″ screen, text-to-speech etc. i got a magellan 4040 from them for $99! It’s excellent at picking up satellite signals, seems like less than 30sec after i turn it on. after that it never loses signal. anyway, if not for anything else, buy.com does have a lot of user reviews for most of the gps’s they sell so you can see what people who have used them think of them.
Some things to think about:
Most of them will come with a carrying case so you can take it out of your car, so you’ll be all set there.
I think most come with a cig. lighter adapter, so battery life shouldn’t be a concern for you. Battery life is usually at least a few hours.
Costly map updates. My magellan actually came with an older map, which i happen to like better than the newer map version because the new one doesn’t say which side of the street my destination is on while my older map does. (they call it an update, i don’t call it that) This update, while it supposedly includes new roads (hmmm, i never see a bunch of new roads being built), costs $80. Other brands’ updates may be free or cost money, i’m not certain. Either way, you’ll have absolutely no obligation to update if you don’t want to. Personally, i don’t plan on getting their update.
