The Best Portable Gps Devices
406 Mhz ELT’s?
I’m a pilot who currently conducts short-range flights – however in the near future I will be flying much longer, much more remote charter flights – including stretches of hours over the Australian outback.
I want to invest in a high quality 406 Mhz ELT – as a portable device to take with me in whichever plane I take. I don’t want to invest in the 121.5 system – it’s outdated and being phased out – and for safety in such remote areas I want higher accuracy.
What brands of ELT should I look at? Which are best? I hear the ones with GPS tracking are even more accurate – are they worth it? Price is not really a concern for this instance as I don’t wish to put a price on my life…but I want to know which are best – only ELTs though, that can be registered with the Australian SAR authorities (devices that don’t meet Australian standards can’t be registered – examples included a non-floating Canadian product)
Any help appreciated! Even if you’re not sure of the Aus. regs!
