Garmin 200 nuvi ?
I want to buy my boyfriend a garmin 200 nuvi … because I’m on a budget and this is the only one I can afford … he insists on a Garmin. Anyway, I found one for $200 and this is the absolute most I can afford. However, I don’t know anything about GPS or what I’m getting into. We basically want this to navigate around Chicago. Does the nuvi 200 show restaurants and everything? He wants one that will show you restaurants, gas stations, etc.. I read where you can program your favorite ones in there, too but does it show all the restaurants and places to go? I don’t want one that is just street maps.
I also saw a TomTom brand that was a lot cheaper but I don’t know how good those are, I’m mostly interested in the Garmin 200.

All car GPS units that I know of come with pre-loaded points of interest, which include restaurants, hotels, stores, gas stations, parks, etc.
The number of POIs goes from 1-2 million to 6-7 million, and the better or more expensive units have more of them. Even that doesn’t necessarily include every possible restaurant or store that exists out there. I believe that the nuvi 200 comes with more than 5 million POIs so it definitely doesn’t do poorly in that category.
Also you can add your own, either places that you know or from map updates that you purchase or lists that you download from the web.
